The number of widths of fabric or amount of gathering in a window, bedding or other treatment (typically 2 to 1, 2.5 to 1, 3 to 1 fullness).

The French word for “false”. With regard to painted finishes, it is used to describe any technique in which paint is manipulated on a surface to imitate the appearance of another substance, such as wood or stone.

Wind and water; ancient Chinese practice of harmonizing the built-environment with spiritual forces.

| FFE |
Acronym for furniture, fixtures and equipment.

| Flat Finish |
The absence of sheen after a paint or finish dries.

| Fluorescent Lighting |
A glass tube coated on the interior with phosphor, a chemical compound that emits light when activated by ultraviolet energy. Air in the tube is replaced with a combination of argon gas and a small amount of mercury. Lamps are also circular and bulb shaped.

Decorative hardware, wood, metal, or cast materials used to cap drapery rods, newel posts, furnishings, lamps, etc.

| Finished Length |
The distance from the top to the bottom of a window treatment when completed, not including allowances for side seams, hems or headings.

Distance from side to side of drapery plus distance added for projections.

| Finish Schedule |
Documents detailing doors, windows, furniture, room finishes colors and other components needing clarification for construction purposes.

| Festoon |
Similar is a valance. Instead of hanging straight down from a horizontal rod, however, it is draped from one corner to the opposite.

Those decorative ornamentation that adorn the ends of curtain rods. They are available in many styles and finishes. |
