Tint

Cotton or linen woven or printed documentary fabric, originally made in France.

 

Tole

Elaborately painted tin metal decorative object.

 

Tone

Degree of lightness or darkness of a color. A color to which gray has been added to change its value.

 

Tongue and Groove

A wood joinery technique in which a protruding end (tongue) or edge fits into a recess (groove), locking the two pieces together.

 

Torchiere

Standing lamp with indirect upward light.

 

Track Lighting

Lighting that utilizes a fixed band that supplies a current to movable light fixtures.

 

Tread

Flat horizontal member of a step or staircase.

 

Trompe L’oeil

Literally meaning “fool the eye”, a painted mural in which realistic images and the illusion of more space are created. Also, a painted surface that convincingly mimic reality.

 

Tropical

Design motifs of exotic plants and locations.

 

Tab Top

A panel with flat fabric loops at the top. These provide an opportunity to make use of decorative curtain rods and finials.

 

Tiers

These generally consist of four short panels, each about the length of 1/2 the height of the window in which they are being hung. One pair is hung at the top of the window and the other halfway down.
